EFFECT TYPES

ABILITY

Abilities are effects that the turn player may manually use at any time they could manually move, manually attack or manually play a card during their own turn. If a card in play uses its Ability, that card cannot use its Ability again for the rest of the turn unless it leaves play. An Ability on a card may only be used while that card is in play. However, if an Ability specifies that it may be used in another location (for example the Discard Pile), you must use that Ability from the specified location instead.

TRIGGER

Triggers are effects that can be used at any time during either player’s turn when the requirements listed in the effect are met. For example, if a Trigger says “When this card is discard…”, if that card is discarded, it may use its Trigger and begin to apply the effects of that Trigger. There is no limit to how many times a card may use its Trigger unless a card effect states otherwise.

If multiple Triggers could be used at the same time, you may resolve your Triggers in any order. If both you and your opponent would have multiple Triggers that could be used at the same time, the non-turn player will resolve 1 of their Triggers first, then the turn player will resolve 1 of their Triggers after and each player will take turns resolving their Triggers in this order until all Triggers have resolved.

If a series of Triggers are resolving and another card would meet the requirements to use its Trigger during the resolution of those cards, that Trigger will be “stored”. After all Triggers have finished resolving, players may then begin to use and resolve their stored Triggers as normal in as a new series of Triggers.

PASSIVE

Passives are effects that apply themselves continuously each player’s turn while a card is in play. If a Passive specifies that it is being applied in another location (for example the Discard Pile), apply the effects of that Passive while that card is in the specified location instead.

IMMEDIATE

Immediate effects are only found on Aid cards and do not have an effect type tag (for example A, T, P). An Immediate effect will always attempt to resolve its effects the moment a card with an Immediate effect is put into play, even while there is a series of Triggers resolving. If an Immediate effect would begin to resolve while a series of Triggers is resolving, after that Immediate effect resolves, continue resolving the rest of those Triggers as normal.
